Meet Jack, Rose and Robyn

Updated: Jan 16

Jack and Rose are Shared Lives carers in York. We spoke to them about the life changing support they have provided to Robyn, who lives with them.

Robyn has been part of our Shared Lives family for 6 years now, and we’re proud to have seen her grow and thrive in that time, developing new skills as she has transitioned to adulthood, becoming an independent young woman.

Robyn embraces as many new opportunities as she can, and has grown the confidence to get involved with local groups and clubs she enjoys. For example, Robyn loves rugby league and is an active member of the York Knights Disability Rugby League Team. We support her during her matches at the new York community stadium.

Robyn volunteers at the RSPCA charity shop and participates in a weekly cooking class called 'Let's Cook' run by Planet Food. She is dedicated to improving her math skills through weekly sessions with York Learning. Alongside these activities, Robyn has a part-time job at Primark. The stability of our family environment provides her with a sense of security, alleviating any concerns for her well-being and allowing her family to fully enjoy their time with her.

Robyn has engaged with mental health and well-being services in York. She actively participates in various initiatives and support programs offered by York Mind, United Response, and Tang Hall Smart. Additionally, she also enjoys being a walking buddy through Move Mates, a local charity that promotes physical activity benefits.

Beyond rugby league, one of Robyn's greatest passions is cinema. A particular recent highlight was watching the Barbie movie with Jack and her friend Kelly. We are so proud of Robyn and can’t wait to see what the future holds for her.

More about Jack and Rose's Shared Lives family

We have been Shared Lives carers for 8 years. During that time we've primarily supported people in longer term placements. We support people who have moderate learning disabilities and require emotional, practical, financial and social support, and we have significant experience supporting young people transitioning to adulthood.

We live in a 4 bed semi-detached, extended 1930's home, situated in a quite cul-de-sac in Acomb, York, and are currently looking for new people to share their life with us.

Matching information

We are an active household and enjoy going on days out to National Trust venues and similar. We like going to the cinema, eating out and going to the local parks. We also like to sit together, playing board games or watching a good film. We love our large kitchen space and like to put music on Alexa and will often dance and sing in this space. We tend to do this on an evening whilst making dinner and everyone is in the house together, it's good fun!

We have 2 young children Poppy 11 and Henry 9 who both go to the local primary schools. Robyn (26) is a Shared Lives customer who has lived with us for 6 years. No pets currently but we may possibly get a dog in the future.
