Become a

Shared Lives carer

Start your Shared Lives journey today, and enjoy a new way of living and working, supporting adults in your home either long or short-term and changing people’s lives.

As a carer you will:

  • Work from home, supporting people over the age of 16

  • Help the people you support to live a fulfilling life

  • Work flexible hours to suit your lifestyle

  • Support people to enjoy your local community and live an active happy life

  • Get the greatest possible job satisfaction as you see the difference you make every day

Shared Lives carers come from all walks of life, meaning that although previous experience in care poses a benefit, it is by no means essential. Enthusiasm, motivation and a caring nature are the three true requirements of becoming a carer. And given that Avalon provide full training at no cost to you, you can rest assured that you will have all the necessary tools to provide a safe, quality environment.

Our carers are carefully matched to the people they support. This means you will provide support to people who share your interests, passions, lifestyle, and/or spiritual beliefs; we know that mutually beneficial matches lead to the very best outcomes for our carers and customers.

Becoming a Shared Lives Carer

Ready to join Shared Lives

We are looking for long and short-term Shared Lives carers in Doncaster, York and the North East, and have local teams based across the regions who will support you and your application.

Long-term carers provide a permanent living arrangement for the people they support. Short term carers offer holiday placements (typically 1-2 weeks at a time), regular respite care, or even just daytime support, which we call Daybreak.

As a carer, you will be self-employed, enjoying a weekly income typically between £250 and £650 per person you support (income is dependent on the needs of the person being supported) with generous tax incentives and ongoing support from our team of specialist Shared Lives managers, so that you can be confident every step of the way.

If you consider yourself to be a caring and reliable person, have room to spare at home, and want to help adults to live fulfilling lives, we want to hear from you.

Next steps

First of all we need to hear from you. To do this, you can either complete a few details on the below form to request a call back from one of our Shared Lives team members, or you can scroll down to find your nearest Avalon office, and get in touch directly.
